I can't really say that I prefer 22 frets over 24 (or vice versa). I guess I never really thought about it. Then again, I have never owned a guitar with 24 frets and very rarely play that high up anyway. ...........

To me it's not just about whether I play up there that often or not, it's about the fret board making sense visually. With a 2 octave neck I don't get lost above the 12th fret like I did with my first electric (LP copy) cos I know the fretboard ends in a sensible place. 22 I can live with, tone short of an octave, but 21???
WTF??
Obviously designed by a non-musician. Not saying everyone should have 24, just makes sense to me and how I play.
Loved Scott Ian's custom Tele he had in the 90's that had only 12 frets, can't seem to find pics tho. :(

+1, even if you don't use it, it just looks right, and psychologically is alot more comfortable to play around the 12th fret.

The LTD 1000 series is alot better than the 400. I've tried all of the 400 and 1000 series, and though they're both great, the 1000 series, are imo, £1000+ quality instruments.  The H1000 Deluxe is not far from my Horizon. It's not quite as nice, but damn close.

Though the 400 are good, imo, its deffo worth paying the extra for an 1000.

Thanks for the info guys! I have looked at the 1000 series, they are very nice but the finishes put me off. There was one in the series with a decent finish (I believe it was Sunburst- can't remember), but other than that they are all solid colors.
I have to say I am quite disgruntled after my latest experience. I have lost interest in buying anything right now. It doesn't help that I have watched several EC-1000's go on ebay.com for about the same price as as the EC-400's go for here. I would just buy one, but VAT fees plus shipping plus the hazard of shipping it so far has put me off. Oh well. Maybe I will come across something at some point.

The vintage black Eclipses are absolutely GORGEOUS.

And the LTD 1000s come in trans finishes on quilt/flame maple tops aswell, I thought?

That is a beautiful guitar! I believe the 1000's come in transparent finishes. The only traditional finish is a Sunburst, which actually looks quite nice.
