I have a feeling we are getting extremely anal here... we are talking about nuances and subtleties right? Or is it a very noticable difference?

This is in the same corner as pickup covers or open pickups I think, you can hear the difference.. but it's not defining.

I think you're right, probably - extremely anal!   I'm sure the differences are there, but I doubt they're substantial; then again I've never had a chance to test side-by-side, so who knows.

But the questions have been asked, so they might as well be answered.

Me personally, I'm not bothered about subtle differences in tone caused by the type of polepieces or covered vs. uncovered.  I'd base my choice on looks alone!

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Well I think you might see it like this: if it made such a big difference.. the companies would give out different types of pickups right? (for instance super distortion with screws or allen heads) But it's more a subtle difference that together with all the others makes the one unique pickup.

I think you are right though.. no matter how nice the tone..... there will never be screw heads on my Ibanez haha.. it's allens or closed cover!
