VERY TECHNICAL QUESTION about Lehle switchers
« on: November 23, 2008, 03:35:09 AM »
I don't think anyone that posts regularly on this forum will know the answer to the question I have, but I'm posting this on a few forums in hopes of perhaps getting a solid answer from someone who knows.

The question is about using multiple Lehle switchers with a MIDI controller.

If you have first-hand knowledge on this subject, please chime in below and I will post my question. I am expecting no replies, but you never know -- maybe there is a Bob Bradshaw in our midst!

Sorry Ben, I have 2 Lehle switchers, but neither of them are midi compatible :)

I've got a D.Loop Midi v1. I don't have experience with multiple units, but do have experience with doing multiple switching of hardware and the Lehle at the same time, i hope i can answer your question :)

Ah, great to hear, Oli. Finding guitarists with sophisticated switching rigs, not multi-fx or modelers, is difficult. I'm not knocking multi-fx or modelers, I use my VG-88 on a regular basis, but for one of the projects I'm working on, discrete effect switching is a must.

Here is my effects control chain:

Roland FC-200 > MIDI to stereo 1/4" cable > D.Loop #1. I bought a second D.Loop on Friday, but since they only have one MIDI jack each, how do I wire in the second D.Loop? Bear in mind that the FC-200 only has MIDI IN and OUT, no MIDI THRU.

The only solution is to use a MIDI Thru box, such as this. However, i'd advise using a unit such as this when used in a stereo application rather than using both the MIDI Out and Thru, as they will have a slight different timing, due to the processing involved with the Out connection (it isn't much at all, though). With MIDI, it's best to split the signal, rather than daisy chaining things, which'll cause latency issues, and also, if one unit in the chain stops performing correctly (ADA MP-1's, i'm looking at you!), then the whole system goes up the spout!

I've wanted to get another D.Loop for stereo, i wish they had a stereo version!

D.Loop IS stereo! :)

UPDATE:

Thanks for the info, Oli, you are correct about splitting vs chaining.

Problem is SOLVED; I ended up using a 1/4" stereo headphone splitter; works a treat!

Now, if I can figure out why PC 2 seems to be working intermittently ...

Hehe, Burkhard and I already have an email correspondence going, but it was the weekend and I needed to get it up and running for rehearsal tonight. No worries, as I got it sorted anyway.

Well blow me down! I never knew it was stereo, that makes it even better than before :) Think i might pick up another unit at some point, they're so well made too.
