bkps and swinesheads in one guitar - doesn't sound right

so i've got a strat with a BKP trilogy neck pickup, and swineshead middle and bridge pickup. on any switch position apart from neck only, i'm getting this really weak, thin sound. what's up? am i discovering the joys of out of phaseness?

Swap the black and white on the BKP, not ideal but should cure the out of phase problems.....I think the BKP wind direction and polarity are the same as Fender, but other manufacturers follow their own rules! How does the bridge and middle sound?

Sounds like you are discovering the joys of BK pickups  

Seriuosly, the Trilogy is a high output single coil and you have it in the neck, I think this is part of the problem, as it will sound way more powerful than a standard strat pickup.

Also, you can check the magnets by holding the top of the Trilogy to the top of the Swineshead.  If they attract, they are opposite polarity, if they repel they are the same.  If they are not opposite polarity, this could be why the sound is thinner, as you have the strat 'out-of-phase' sound.

Like Hayden says, you can also try to reverse the black and white leads, but I am assuming you didn't change the Swineshead.  Unless you changed all 3 pickups at once?

i think i've shorted something else though, as the neck pickup can be heard on all positions.

i got 3 swinesheads, but wasn't happy with the neck p'up, so i got the trilogy. it wouldn't have been my first choice of BKP, but it was second hand and going cheap...

That's out of phase. Swineshead probably wind his single coils the wrong way.

Swapping black and white over isn't really a very good idea as you're putting the hot coming from the coil centre, never good prcatice.
We wind our single coils clockwise/top going top left which is pretty much a universally excepted standard and south polarity.Some winders, even SD, mess up on their wind direction and will wind counterclockwise/top going top right which is the way you wind humbuckers.Originally Strat coils where north up and clockwise till about early '60s then south up and clockwise with the exception of a few reissues.Of course it's down to the individual winding the pickup but it can be a pain in the neck when you try to mix and match with other makes.
Don't use black as hot though you'll end up with problems!
