vintage tone

GAS is taking over again  :o I really like vintage tones but with an edge, think Gary Moore, Slash and that sort. I have a Les Paul but something doesn't seem to feel right about it. I'm a PRS fan which explains the choices but I'm liking the look of the Hamer and have heard lots of good things about them. Any suggestions?

if you want les paul players tone, my advise is to play a les paul

What's not right about the LP you've got?  If we know what's wrong, we can suggest how to fix it...

I'll explain what I'm thinking, I started off wanting a back up for the les paul but looking around, I could only find guitars that I really want but convinced myself that I couldn't justify a new guitar. Now I'm thinking screw it, I'll just get another one  :lol: It'll feel quite nice mid gig to say "That was a Gary Moore song, and now for crazy train I shall change to my prs245" By the way I've decided on a prs245

Stick with the Les Paul, maybe tweak it a bit and let it age well. I always think they get better with age.
Save up for the PRS of your dreams so sometime down the line you will have both.
If you get rid of the Les Paul you will just end up really wanting one again some way down the line.

Yeah, you're supposed to brag about your guitars once you're finished, not mid set.

95% of people couldn't care less what guitar you're using anyway.

The SC245 is the PRS LP-like, so I guess that's an obvious choice.  I hope it works out for you!

To be honest I'm just using that as a very thinly veiled excuse for a Prs245. Played one lately and just couldn't put it down, loved it. As for talking about it mid gig, the only people who go to gigs in my town are musicians so I could get away with it  :lol: On a side note, how are your areas for live gigs? Galway has gone really downhill. If you haven't been a regular on the scene for 10 years you don't get a gig. Sorry about the rant but had to get it off my chest

I voted for the McCarty Korina just because I love mine, but the SC245 is probably the best choice for the tone you're after, I'd imagine.

if something isn't quite right about the Les Paul, it could just be that guitar - I paid £1600 for a Classic Plus that looked gorgeous but I couldn't get it to sound or play anywhere near the level of my black LP standard.  I'd play a few more Les Pauls and see if you find one better than what you have now - not all are created equal.
