For the pedal builders.
« on: January 28, 2009, 02:00:49 PM »
I need help from you guys with transistors. I need to get hold of some germanium ones for a fuzz pedal and im lost!

I know that old ac128's would be best but as i understand its hard to find good ones so i guess nkt275 are the way to go.

But where to get them from and how do i know if im getting good ones?

cheers

You will have a really hard time finding any NTK275s.

AC128, AC125 and AC188 sound good.

I have also use some NPN AC176s with good results, although obviously you would have to modify the circuit for -ve ground.
already tested transistors tested for the correct gain in a Fuzz Face), and or adjust the bias on the second stage so that the voltage on the base of Q2 is around half the supply voltage.

Good info on this at Geofex.

I've used Smallbear and they are very good.

Banzai can be v-v-v-v-v-v-very slow (like 9 months slow!!).

This chap sell the correct transitors gain matched:
