High Gain Pickup for an OAK Guitar!!!
« on: February 07, 2009, 12:35:48 PM »
Not sure if anyone remembers my Ikea build (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13725.0, but I've been playing it a lot recently, and I really like it!

After building it, I found it frustrating to live with, so I raised the action on it, tuned to an open chord, and used ot for slide - although I hardly really played it, 'cos I was so busy with my Yam SG 200.  However, I've just retuned it and started playing it again, and it's pretty damn good...

It's currently got a ToneRider RockSong HB in the bridge - which isn't half bad, but I know it can be better.  I'm thinking about having it as something a little different to the kind of thing that I'd usually go for.

So, the plan is to get a single HB strat pickguard, tidy up the electrics a little, sand down the sharp fretboard edges, and replace the humbucker!!!

I have a Charvel with calibrated Nailbombs and a Yam SG with calibrated Mules.  For Ikea I think that I like the idea of a single purpose "metal"ish guitar...  No trem, just the pickup and a volume control (maybe a tone control too... and maybe a coil split...)

Not really sure what tone I'm aiming for...  just something that will be different to the NB and Mules.  Possibly a Warpig?

Any ideas?

Mark.

Bit late to the party on this, but I'd certainly recommend a warpig - a great metal pickup which cleans up suprisingly well!
