Celestion speaker wiring
« on: March 03, 2009, 08:55:21 AM »
I am looking to replace a pair of Celestion V30’s with a G12H and a G12-65.

On the V30 terminals there’s a clearly marked + and no colour coding, on the heritage’s there is no + and a black and red colour system. For the heritage’s, which is +, the red or the black.

Thanks

Not 100% sure without looking, but I think the red wire is +ve. The way to test is to rig it up to a 9v battery (the speaker, that is!) and see which way the cone moves when you connect the red terminal to the +ve on the battery. If the cone pushes out, you have the +ve terminal in contact with the 9V battery +ve terminal.

Hope this helps,

Roo

cheers roo,

just so I am clear on the battery test, connect the wire running to the red speaker terminal to the +ve on the battery and the wire running to the black speaker terminal to the -ve on the battery, if the cone pushes out I am sorted.

Can I do any speaker damage this way ?

I wouldn't bother with the battery test - red is '+' and black is '-'  :)
