hamletic doubts... miracle men or not?
« on: February 27, 2009, 07:17:02 PM »
i've got almost EVERY contemporary BKP... lately i'm slowly realizing that the only pickup i had no interest into, the MM, is tonally very different from what i thought. and so here it comes MM GAS, of course...

i read exceptional things about MMs in basswood guitars... but how they sound in a thin mahoganey axe? i saw a gorgeous - and veeeeery cheap - ibanez RGA32, which is simply an RG shaped S with a fixed bridge...

should i do the thing that deep in the darkest abyss of my heart i already decided to do, and buy an 11th guitar JUST to put into it a couple of MMs? tell me not, for god's sake...
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

I have that little voice too, it says 'You're going to do it, you knoW you are, just give in now and enjoy it.' I always take it's advice.

I suppose you might be sensible to get a set of MM's and try them in an existing guitar before you buy a new axe to mount them on. But hey, sense has nothing to do with guitar related purchases.

what do you want to play with that guitar?
tuning matters too

and one weird thing about the miracle man is that it works like a tube amp
sounds a bit boxy and too focused at low volumes, but it gets bigger, smoother and more open the louder you play
it really shines in a band

the usual stuff... MY music (a sort of progressive gothic death), the mix of pseudo-gothic metal and "metalized" '80 covers i do with the band i'm currently in, and the things i play at home along records just to have fun (spacing from doom to melodic death metal)... of course i'd use it as a "metal" guitar, and won't even try to do rock and blues (but who knows?)... i'm tuned in standard E.
the fact is that i'm full of guitars and could afford even a one trick pony, but of course i don't want to end up with a guitar that i don't like to use... i don't think there's a real risk of completely disliking any BKP, after all the only good pickup i coudn't absolutely get with was the 81...

what you mean for "louder"? dynamics or amp volume?
