now try a 10-52 on a slightly fanned fret guitar and you will really see how nice a low E can sound, or dropped to C for that matter - the effect is the same

Have you considered the Eric Johnson GHS'?  Like a set of 10s but balanced better:

10  13  18  26  38  50

or

11  14  19  28  40  52

Looks like they could work out pretty balanced, but they are both too thick for me. Im going to use the custom 8-42 set from the jemsite, for incredibly easy  bending and left hand expression in general.

I am now using similar gauges in Snake Oil Brand to the GHS Dave Gilmour sets: 10,12,16,28,38,48 or 11,13,17,30,40,50 depending on the scale length.
So many pickups, so little time
