Strat opinions please
« on: March 16, 2009, 11:02:40 PM »
Advice for a friend.

Friend has a Gibson SG all stock about 5 years old which he is totally happy with and a stock strat  (american) prior to latest mods about 1-2 years old which he finds lacking in bite and power.

He plays mainly AC/DC, Metallica, G & R, Rush and Purple etc etc.

I think he got the strat because he wanted a better faster lead instrument and couldn't afford a les paul :-) or is that me just being mean.

Anyway any suggestions on a pickup set or any other mods

Strat - lack of bite, power, wants Les Paul, classic metal = sinner, trilogy, trilogy (But why buy a 3 single coil guitar in the first place?)
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

He was stuck with some solos on his SG and picked up a strat in the shop and Lo they just rolled off so he was hooked. Doesn't dislike it and it's nice to have a change but he wants more from it :-).

Why the sinner at I presume bridge and not just 3 trilogy ?

The 'he wants a Les paul' was my little snipe I rib him over it but he picked up the Strat new for less than £600 and as he was buying a taylor acoustic at the time it was a bargain he couldn't resist.

I'm surprised he finds the Strat faster than an SG. I've got 2 SGs and a Strat and I find the SGs much faster/easier to play with better access to the top frets....each to his own...
