Comments on BD7 and TM7

I have this to say. Oh My God.

i just got my Black Dog7 and The Mule7 installed, had a band rehearsal tonight and gave them a try. FINALLY my 7 string was tonally usable. begone, cursed EMG's! Fitting the pickups was no hassle at all in the 707 Route, they look killer without rings, and bending the tabs really worked like a charm. for anyone considering to change their EMG707-808 for BKP. go for it, no dremelling or carving or gouging or chiseling is required.

very creamy overdrive, bright but with good bottom end when coupled with a decent cab and amp. on the solid state i use to give lessons it was kinda soft, but very very dynamic. that's for the bridge. the neck is gorgeous, it's just the tubular paf tone i was looking for.

The BD7 has just the right amount of midrange, not nasal at all. very much like the oldish humbucker tones i love to boost

i found that the mule lacked just a little bit of high end for the top notes, that glassy kind of pick attack. can probably be fixed with some modifications to my solo EQ. i'm definitely leaving it there, but for ''historical'' purposes... what BKP would fit the bill?

the middle mix of these gives me the impression that the neck and bridge are split with RWRP but with a touch of humbucking.

very very happy with this choice. and man, this pickup just doesn't feedback on its own, very long sustain that doesn't turn into feedback too soon. it's really perfect. the magnet pull is also very good, even if they're relatively close but not too close, there's little to no magnetic pull. I've had pickups set further that had magnetic problems.

and you'll be surprised at how a mule neck holds the low B string. really surprised. no mud at all. but maybe the ash body helps.

Pics and clips, or it didn't happen!

I'm not surprised at all about the Mule7's handling of a low B - my Black Dog (6) handles a low A supremely.

Would really like to hear clips of these babies!!

That guitar body with its curves and soft shimmering clearcoat has something sexual.

I always, always thought that lower output was better with low tunings and 7 strings compared to higher output.

The Black Dog seems to be getting a reputation for low tuning, I've seen a local band that uses them and they tune rather low.

You've got me thinking about Schecter 7 strings again now though... any idea what the Omen Extreme 7 is like? seems to have a good spec for the cash...

The 26.5" scale length seems interesting too, hmm. I'm gonna have to brave up and go to a guitar shop again i suppose.

I almost didn't get it. even though the store i work in is the sole distributor of schecters in a 100 mile radius or so, i ordered my loomis7 in may 2008. got it end of april 2009. and in 2009 they discontinued the fixed bridge version. that's what i call timing. i also ordered them when they were dirt cheap and had employee discount + price protection from 3 price increases in november, january and march. let's say that for a guitar that retailed 1600CAD in may 2009... I got away with murder ;)

The Omen series are... how can i say, made in china? they're good, but really, go for the damien series and above, anything below just doesn't cut it honestly. And i sell these guitars (among others) for a living. we have an omen 7 in stock, it sounds good really, but it's just... very not refined. very much like the washburn x series. and in my view, that's not a good thing.

Hope you don't mind a thread hijack here man, but in your opinion, is the Schecter 8 a "good" guitar?
I mean as in quality and all that jazz.
I was thinking about that instead of the Loomis (which I originally planned to get.)
Thanks for any advice.   :D
Cheers!

The Loomis is rock solid. for a korea made, they're great. schecter basically has 3 grades. the cheaper china made stuff is good for 400-500-600$CAD guitars. arch top and not so bad hardware.

then comes the indonesia made stuff, really nice, the electronics tend to be a bit on the shoddy side (scratchy pot and all) but you've got good woods.

and then, Blackjack, Hellraiser, Classic, Signature series are all Korean made. so the hellraiser 8 is as kickass as my loomis. what i love is the great acoustic resonance. very loud, good sustain too. I say for an affordable 8 string, you're on the right track :D
