Suggestions please.
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:27:02 AM »
hey everyone

This is my first post on the boards as well as my first guitar tech work ever. Needless to say I need some help.
Oh, its also important that I add-in I'm a drummer.

Recently I had a friend let me borrow his Squire Bullet. Its a 2000 indonesian model with the plywood body (dont cringe yet there is a point). I sort of inhereted this guitar as my friend was killed in an accident a couple months ago. My plan is to bring this guitar to life with the drummer mentality -- 'there are no bad sounds only different'. I see the plywood body as an upside because its unique and ive read forums of people loving their 'tricked out bullets'. Im redoing everything on this guitar except the body but before I can order all my parts i must be unstuck on choosing pick ups and get a little more know-how.

The sound I want out of it is like John Frusciante (RHCP) blood sugar/californication eras and Matt Bellamy (Muse) mix. Ive been eyeballing this setup but I have no idea about compatibility or what the best way to do the wiring is.

Neck: Mississippi Queen - P-90
Middle: Mothers Milk - SingleCoil
Bridge: NailBomb - HumBucker

So basically my questions are
Is this a good setup? what would you change? (based on the tone im going for)
Are they compatible? (no hum/ohms/etc.)
Whats the best schematic type for this set up? (feel free to be as technical as possible, if i dont get it ill figure it out)
What soddering equipment is best for guitar work?

Let me know what ya'll think!

Joshua

Welcome to the forum!

Interesting question. I think the Nailbomb might be too high output for those sorts of tones, and I'd consider looking more towards the Vintage Hot range or even lower, depending on your amp. With that said, the NB is very versatile, so you'd probably be okay with that!

The only other point I'm equipped to make is that you might wish to consider 'soldering equipment' rather than 'soddering equipment' ;)
