The Brown Boxes are here!
« on: March 26, 2009, 03:11:06 AM »

There was a bit of a delay getting them here, presumably as Mr Customs Officer wanted to find out what they were, so I had to pay a little duty/tax but nothing worth worrying about... I expect to get the soldering iron fired up tonight when I'm home from work.

With so many pickups you may find that you can only solder in one of them - until you notice that time has flown by during the test drive for the first set ... it happened to me once albeit with a different manufacturer.

Cheers Stephan

Goodness, now that is screaming for more information. Congrats for a great selection. Also like your choice o black uncovered for all of them, understatement is king!

Which PU for which guitar, which PUs in there at current, what are you trying to achieve etc. We LOVE those kinds of thoughts!

That's one sweet little collection. If I only had that many guitars to fill with BKPs!

I'm following in the footsteps of Hunter. Please share some info on guitars, current pickups, sounds you're after and so on.

^ What that man said :) Cheers Antag.
But to summarise, VHIIs in an Ibanez 540R for lower gain rock (lower than a Nailbomb at least), Miracle Man set & Slowhand HSH for RG550 for instrumental rock, Painkiller & Trilogy Suite HSH for an unloved, abused and now rescued Charvel that needs to rock again! Originally planned for 80s rock/metal (Twisted Sister, WASP) but now I'm really curious about severe downtuning. I shall certainly give that a go 8)

To be honest I was originally planning a mix of colours; black & purple reverse zebra for the RG, black & cream reverse zebra for the Charvel and plain black for the 540R, all with allen bolts (some chrome some black), but I realised that I might prefer the VHIIs in the RG (for example) and maybe I want to try pairing a Painkiller bridge with a Miracle Man neck, so all black with regular slugs 'n' screws made more sense. If I find a particular set is really for me then I could always sell the black ones and order again in different colours.

As ever it was a pleasure dealing with Tim, he explained the the neck pickups in more detail for me as these are often less talked about and cleared up a lot of confusion on my part. He also found me a low reading 500k pot (to knock off some of the highs of the PK) and included some rubber tubing for mounting. Great BKP service!

I'll take some pics when they are all installed, probably not till next week though.
