Abraxas - the verdict
« on: March 27, 2009, 08:43:13 PM »
Got a set of AIV Abraxas fitted to my Les Paul today.  Impressed as ever, specifically:

Bridge - hotter than a Mule (marginally) but with very good balance across the dynamic range - I can see why Tim rates AIV's so highly.  Very clear, a nice amount of bite but no harshness or sharpness.  With the right amp eq'ing it could do many different things.

Neck - out of this world.  Very good low-end response with no muddiness at all, outstanding clarity and a real boom whilst maintaining a vintage sound.  Funnily enough it does the best pure jazz tone I've ever heard, really rich and full.  It's the best neck pickup I've heard by a long margin.

These are as hot as you want them to be - if you pick hard they will drive the amp, but if you soften your attack they can sound very sweet.  A very versatile pickup, could be a starting point for a very good example of an all-rounder PAF style set but with extra balls AND subtlety.  Well done again Tim.

Nice to hear back from you, and thanks for the review....  I knew the AB neck was great, now I know it's an awesome pickup !!!

Anyway, time for some Rock now !
