I can kind of see why people might not like them, due to quality control issues, but i do love my 339! I'm not sure i'll need another electric now i have it!

But as others have stated, nobody is forcing you to buy them!

And i love that Bloomfield Les Paul, makes me wanna listen to Highway 61 Revisited.
Driving in my car, smoking my cigar, the only time i'm happys when i'm playing my guitar!

Gibson quality control has always been real hit-or-miss, both in fit-and-finish and wood quality.  Maybe this is because there seems to be more handcrafting going into one, I do not know.

But as far as I can tell, Gibsons have always been that way, even back in Elder Days when their guitars were handmade by elves. I have played some Gibsons from the 1950's that were nothing special, tone-wise, and I have played some mighty instruments that were made when Gibson was supposed to be turning out junk.

Gibson's guitars are hard to predict, but their best designs have been timeless.

Yeah, I get tired of the constant string of celebrity models and limited editions, and I wish that Gibson (and to a lesser extent, Fender) would focus on getting their details consistent and getting them right instead of making another Burger King Special Limited Edition Les Paul or whatever ('cause nothing says "rock and roll" like Burger King") but I don't buy those guitars.

Can't post tips here those sly shopkeepers may be watching for them

I imagine most shop keepers have heard every trick in the book.

In my opinion I find it difficult to believe that a retailer would have offered/accepted that deal on a guitar as they would have basically been making no profit and maybe even a loss. The case bit I can understand as a case for a £1200 guitar shouldn't really cost anymore than a case for a 'cheaper' guitar - it's only the vintage ones that go for silly money. Fair play if it happened but it sounds a little far fetched to me.

Just my opinions of course.

The other aspect of getting great deals is timing, knowing when a car dealer is on a quarterly close for example they could have a 100 car target they have 98 sold and they will get a £100/unit discount extra for reacing target which means the next two cars are worth £10000 extra to them.

Similar timings can occur for any store or business - cash flow issues and you can get items at cost, if they have surplus stock from oversupply of accessories you may get extras thrown in.  End of any quarterly or annual accounting period can give extra discounts. Finding out if they are changing any lines again they need get rid of that manufacturers stock. Knowledge and negotiation go hand in hand along with a small amount of confusion which is always the buyers friend.

On Guitar Village, the $%&#ed up Korina Les Paul 50th Anniversary is OUT OF STOCK.

So either some dumb/rich (or both) person has bought it.
"Would you like some lemon oil?"
