BK and POD XT Clips - Black Dog
« on: October 19, 2005, 04:26:17 PM »
Hey guys.

I've borrowed a POD XT Pro and decided to record some clips so I could have a mess around with it to see whatiti can do.

The songs I've recorded are here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=382004

and are called BK Track 1 and 2 :)

There was a BK Track 3, but it sounded rubbish and didn't give a very good impression of the pickup.

For Track 1 I used my Gordon Smith Les Paul copy with a Black Dog in the bridge, the POD set on a Plexi setting and my modified Vox wah.

For Track 2 I used my Fender Strat with a Crawler in the bridge, and Irish Tours in the middle and neck positions. The POD was set on a Fender Bassman setting.

The guitar panned slightly to the left is the neck Irish Tour and the guitar panned slightly to the right is the Screw coil of the Crawler and the middle Irish Tour in parallel.

The playing isn't very good on any of the tracks, but I'm only messing around :)

Thanx for the posts guys :)

I wasn't happy with the tones of the POD XT, so I'm doing a little experiment at home and recording with my guitar, wah and OD pedals straight into my pre-amp to see how that works out :)

Wow man, VERY good tunes!

Questions.

BK Song 1 is black dog in bridge?

What about Song 3 ? Which pickup and which position/guitar?

Same for Song 2... which pickup and which position?

I am trying to decide which pups for my Tokai LP/ Laney LC30 amp... thanks man for the nice clips and i am looking forward to your answers.

Hi there Yannis :)

BK Track 1 is 'Jailbreak' by Thin Lizzy and was recorded with my Gordon Smith LP Clone, with a Black Dog in the bridge, a Vox wah and a POD XT Pro on a Plexi setting.

BK Track 2 is Buddy Guy's version of 'Mustang Sally' and is the neck Irish Tour of my Fender Strat along with the bridge crawler/middle Irish Tour in the notch position. It was also recorded with a POD XT Pro, but set ona  Fender Bassman setting.

Song 2 is the Guns N Roses version of 'Knockin On Heavens Door' and was recorded with my Gibson LP Standard with Duncan Seth Lovers into a Marshall Silver Jubilee 1/2 Stack. The clean picking bit is the neck pickup, and the crunchy distorted parts are the bridge pickup.

Song 3 is also 'Jailbreak' by Thin Lizzy, but I used my Gibson LP Standard with Duncan Seth Lovers into the same Marshall Silver Jubilee as Song 2. It's all played on the bridge pickup. The wah sued is a modified Vox 847 wah.

I'm alot happier with the tone of tracks I recorded with the Marshall Silver Jubilee amp, but that's down to my preferring the amp to a POD and nothing to do with the pickups.

I'm actually changing my Duncan Seth Lovers for a set of Mules when I can afford it :)

Cool Craig thanks a lot.

I loved the tone on both versions of Lizzy's tune, but to be honest, the Seth Lover version sounded warmer and rounder, is it due to the podXT vs Jubilee or the black dog is the harsh puppy?

I am looking for a pair of BKP for my Tokai, to play GnR, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Cream, Sabbath, Purple etc... and a bit of new stuff like Tool/Nirvana etc, and i was looking around for which pup will help (my gut says black dog since it is also my fav song :).) pm me if you can

Hey again :)

I'd definitely put the 'warmth' of the Seth Lover tracks down to the sue of the Marshall amp over the POD. I much prefer using an amp over a modeller, but I just recorded the POD clips for a bit of fun :)

As for the stuff you mentioned, I don't think you could go wrong with either Mules, Riff Raffs or Black Dogs :)
