Help me Replace Bridge Pickup please...
« on: August 16, 2010, 07:46:55 PM »
Hi, I am new to Bareknuckle pickups.

I have been trying to read a lot about them in the last few days while listening to many youtube clips.

I would very much appreciate any advice and help on choosing new humbuckers for my epiphone les paul standard plus guitar--a mahogany guitar with a flame maple top and a rosewood fretboard.

I play all kinds of metal and the guitar is down-tuned to Drop C: C, G, C, F, A, D.

Currently, I have a seymour duncan JB (sh-4) in the bridge.
While the sound is fairly good there are some things I don't like about it:

(1) It has a nasal mid range spike and too much midrange in general.
(I would like something with a little less mids and without that nasal spike)

(2) I wish it had a little more low end bass oomph and better palm muting on the lowest string.
(But I don't want the low end to be too muddy.)

(3) I want a little more smoothness on the high end, for example on guitar solos.

I was thinking of going with a warpig bridge.

But maybe a Miracle man would be good too?

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks guys,

Is the warpig too muddy you think?
(Just curious why you recommended the miracle man over it.)

the miracle man will be tighter and has the relaxed mids that you want.

i always found the miracle man works better with downtuning as well it retains the tightness more.

I have never tried the ceramic warpig though that should retain the tightness

also the Miracle man has that low end thump that you want and pretty much matches your requirements exactly

This.

Hence, no warpig recommendation.
