A very short Mule clip, trying to achieve brutalz
« on: May 04, 2009, 06:30:23 PM »
Have been playing around with this riff for a while now. I tried to do a bit of djent but the way I play is just too generic (if thats the right word to use) to do anything as good as that. I also couldnt program the drums how I wanted them to sound, so I left em off. 2 tracks with some quite sloppy playing (can hear open strings :x )

I used the Mules into a Blackstar HT5 being boosted with a BYOC screamer, through G12H30 speakers and an SM57.

edit - its actually really LOG-ish, I didnt realise that until someone pointed it out. Moreso than djent anyway.

i like, (although shame about the drums , they woulda helped with some extra depth...)
r u using the byoc screamer for added gain? or to tighten it up, boost the mids n cut the bass abit etc??
really interested in the blackstar, i goota try one out somewhere.....  8)

Just to tighten it up and add a little gain really, the amp does have loads of gain though I just prefer boosting for metal for the tightness and saturation it adds.

cool, makes sense, kk so amp situation should be resolved like this, for me, mostly because of ur clips i reckon, a engl fireball for the ultra heavy/ loud band stuff.... and just cuz im gready.... a blackstar ht-5 (head) both into my recently acquired framus 2x12 (with g12k-100's)
may have to rent a 4x12 or go into p.a. for larger gigs but theyl be a while away soooo ill be sorted

cheers for the clips tom  keep em coming,
reckon u could do a clip of the amps cleans??

Cleans arent really the blackstars strong suit unless you either crank the clean channel or have the gain really low on the overdrive one. It sounds so cheap if you just run the clean channel at a normal volume, but then again I dont really like proper cleans.

Anyway I'll record something tomorrow hopefully.

Ok heres a really sloppy clean clip. Neck MQ straight into the HT5 on the clean channel. I added a bit of reverb in reaper, and also eq'd out some lows as it sounded a bit boomy, probably still is a bit. Theres some overdrive at the end as well. That was Pig 90 bridge straight in, with the overdrive channel volume all the way up and gain about 9-10 o clock. No eq added to the track but a bit of reverb. Actually sounds quite similar to how it is in the room
