Pedal order
« on: April 17, 2009, 01:32:06 PM »
I'm kinda new to individual pedals so I'd like some help on what order to sequence them in. Based on the research I've done I'm guessing that this is right:

Guitar----Cry Baby 535Q----MXR Super Comp----MXR MC401 Boost----Bad Monkey----Distortion (not sure which yet)----Amp----Effects send----Tonerider Chorus----DD7----Effects return

I'm not sure if the compressor should go before the wah, after the wah or the first thing in the effects loop and the positioning of the boost pedal is a complete guess as I had no idea on that one.

Any help gratefully received.

Wash should be first as it's very sensitive to guitar input.

Boost can be wherever you want - it depends what you're trying to boost!

Here's a question: where does Autowah go?
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

I'd assume it would go in the same place as a normal wah but I don't know for sure.

I was simply planning on using the boost pedal to make solos stand out a bit more rather than use a volume pedal.

As to the additional distortion device I was looking at, I'm really stuck on that one. I'm using the Bad Monkey to tighten up the distortion on my amp's drive channels and give it a little more gain but that won't take me far enough to get into modern high gain territory. I've written to a number of manufacturers explaining what I want and saying I won't be using the clean channel and they keep suggesting the most extremem pedals they have, like a Metal Muff for example. Surely that would be too much on top of an overdriven drive channel as I was anticipating having to use a second overdrive pedal to cascade the effect. Any advice?

Put the boost last then, and kick your amp a bit harder  ;)

Two overdrives will be too 'soft' for modern high gain.  You need a distortion pedal.  I'd look at things like Marshall Guv'nors, Metal Muffs etc

My collection of pedals is slowly taking shape and I'm fairly sure about the correct order of most of them but not all. The only pedal I have in the loop at the moment is an EHX Small Clone. In front of the amp is a Weeping Demon, an MXR Super Comp and a Bad Monkey. Of those three I know the Bad Monkey goes last but will the compressor go before or after the Wah?

I'd say after, but try it both ways  :)

Half the fun in having loads of pedals is to play with them in different orders and combinations. There's no right or wrong way from what I've found, just different ways. If you find a combination/order that works for you and it's not the normal way of arranging the pedals, then bugger conformity!
There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do and those who do not.
