PRS SE Singlecut Pickup choices
« on: May 27, 2009, 04:33:56 PM »
Hey, so this is my first time buying a pair of BKPs and would like a little advice on choosing one that would suit me well. I'm using a stock Paul Reed Smith SE Singlecut with stock pickups.

Right now I'm in a hardcore punk band, so that's generally the type of music I play. However recently I've been getting into some metal and I think that's going to be the general sound that I'm looking for. I've been trying to decide between the Painkiller and Warpigs.

I love the way the pigs sound but I'm afraid of the high output because I play my guitar pretty hard and worry that it won't come across so well on such a hot pickup, which is why I'm considering the Painkillers. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

I think Painkillers or Warpigs might be a bit too overboard.

What type of metal by the way? Death? Melodic? Tech? Heavy?

If you want to stick with Hardcore Punk then maybe Nailbombs might work, they can range for a fair bit genre wise.

I'm a big fan of melodic death metal, and some thrash like Municipal Waste.

Ah. Then Painkillers and Warpigs may indeed be the choice, for the metal side that you want that is.

If you're mostly playing punk, then the ceramic painkillers might be too much for that. I'd recommend an AV Nailbomb. I've heard that despite their heat, Warpigs can be versatile as well, but I can't be too sure of that, so if you want one, I'd suggest looking around on the forum, or emailing Tim, since he knows absolutely everything (though I'm sure that if you're willing to wait a little while, dheim or MDV will sound off about what you're asking).

P.S., welcome to the forum...
