One of these popped up in my area with cab, celestion greenbacks, and a recent revalve, for a great £550. Has anyone owned/played one of these, and do they know if it can pull off more modern high gain stuff with a suitable Od pedal. Cheers.

I was just gonna answer and say you might need an OD pedal, but you've already mentioned that so it may work.
My only sources are looking at videos/comments about the Legacy on YouTube.

I used to have a Carvin Legacy. I bought it b/c I got a great deal on the head/cab. It was a very good mid gain amp. Amazing lead and shred type tones and a great clean channel. However for high gain and metal especially tight riffing, even with a boost it was very lacking for me. I traded it for my 5150 and am happy I did. Although I would like to have both as the Legacy's lead tone and cleans are much better than the 5150. Great amp if you aren't looking for an all out metal machine.

I'm leaning more towards this Carvin now, I am normally a fan of the metal monsters but this might force me to tighten my playing up a bit more, as well as non-metalheads being more accepting of my playing 8)
