MQs doing some blooze
« on: May 30, 2009, 07:53:48 PM »
I wasn't planning on posting this anywhere, but I was so impressed with the tones coming out of my MQ'd Explorer that I decided to post it up here.

The guitar solo is actually a first take guide that I put down to help create a backing track for someone over on the Boss BR Community forum. They wanted resonators over a bass part so they could solo over it. I had awful trouble sorting out levels for the resos until I suddenly realised that if I put a guide solo down myself I'd have a much better chance . I didn't even bother tuning it... seems to have come out alright though.

I'm using the neck pickup up until ~2:00 when I go to the neck/bridge for a verse. I switched to the bridge at ~2:20 (and I was getting bored, please forgive the fluffed and badly chosen notes  ).

The amp model on my VOX Tonelab was a JTM45 (through a 4x12 this time) running at about 2/3.

I bought the MQs over a year ago now, and it's only over the last couple of weeks I've found out just how gorgeous they are :)

Btw, it's the same bass/drum track, posted by another Boss BR user, that I used for the resonator song I posted the other day, which you can find on my soundclick (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=912452&songID=7639951). For this new version, I replaced all the resonators because they were too busy for what the other guitarist wanted...

I want a resonator guitar!! They sound amazi-fying!

Very interesting tone on the Explorer ... it still sounds like an Explorer, but yours has a very nice, natural, and open tone to it. I wouldn't worry about any bum notes; I, for one, can't play blues to save my life!

If I get that sort of sound out of the MQ in my WezV build, I'll be a more than happy man.

Great, great sound!

And I just spent a fun 20 mins on your soundclick page  8)

Nice one, thanks guys :)

I don't use my MQs nearly enough.

Partly my Explorer is my "novelty" guitar - even though it's the most expensive one I own - I got it because I always "wanted" one and there it was, and I could afford it at the time. Always seems a bit of an effort strapping it on in the living room, though. And I don't get on with the nitro on the neck, gets really claggy for me really quickly - I wouldn't notice it in a gig, you'd just get on with it, but playing at home, doing takes, putting it down, picking it up again... having to clean it every 20 minutes gets a bit of a pain!

Having said that, the sounds that come out of it with the MQs, and how it responds as I play it, always makes up for it when I make the effort

If "claggy" = sort-of-sticky ... I had a similar problem with the neck on my GIbson Nighthawk.  I got it buffed properly and then polished it with decent car polish.  No more sticky neck.  :D

Really nice "bloozy" tone and feeling. What a good inspiration !  8)

Those MQ seem to be VERY versatile, aren't they ?

And...
I wouldn't worry about any bum notes

Lovely recording quality and this came out of something the size of a fag packet!

Nice playing Andy. Lovely tones from the MQ's and that Vox Tonelab sounds bloody amazing!
Warpig, MQ,
Miracle Man-Trilogy Suite, Cold Sweats, Black Guards, Rebel Yells & Irish Tours!

Cheers guys :D

Johnny, you know you need a Boss MBR... and a Tonelab, for that matter

(Actually, you'll be pleased to know I hit my first "technical issue" with the MBR over the weekend  - sorted it, but it was 3-4 hours of arsery not needed!)
