Suggestions for a versatile HSS set needed
« on: June 14, 2009, 06:24:28 PM »
Hi everyone, my first post here!

I'm looking for an HSS set to use on my Yamaha PAC112J. Its a guitar for someone with a tight budget, and don't come with the best possible pickups, which is why I'm planning on getting BKPs after saving up money.

I'll be as specific as possible describing what I'm looking for. I play mainly Blues and Rock. I'd like a single-coil with a clear sound, but can also be dirtied up for lead. Think Eric Clapton, John Mayer, and SRV.

As for the bridge pickup, I'd prefer to have one which places strong emphasis on the middle frequencies. Carlos Santana or Joe Bonamassa are good examples. However, I also play Metal, though not as much as I do Blues and Rock. It has to be able to handle the whole tight "chugga chugga" thing well.  :P It doesn't have to be "the perfect Metal pickup" though, I'm happy as long as it can get me in the right ballpark.

Thanks for reading all that,
Geetar.

  • Crawler and Irish Tours. First choice for tone!

Crawler bridge and 2 Irish Tours. I have them in my Strat, and my needs are precisely the same as yours by your description. The Crawler is middy and punchy without any darkness when you crunch it up, and the IT's are SRV-tastic, and amazing for dirty blues!
