Coated strings

Which are good/best value for money?

I'm currently usin Elixirs but as my local shops charge about £12 for them its a  it of a stinger!

I much prefer coated strings as i feel they last much longer (for me atleast) before getting dirty/rusty.

I hate the feel of old grubby strings!

Are there any other brands that are comparable at a better price? or should i just bulk buy elixirs.

It might be worth trying out pure nickel sets?

I've only ever tried Elixirs on accoustics - didn't really get on with them myself. Yeah, they last for ages, but the guitar lost its "sparkle". Also, the coating wears off and the strings go "furry" in my experience (maybe that's the "time to replace" them - but in that case it would have worked out a lot more expensive )

I've since tried pure nickel on my fender electrics. They also last for ages in my hands, in comparison with standard nickel plated steel. They also take some of the top-end off, enough for me to think twice about them - but if you're already using Elixirs, you might like the nickel tone... (and they're cheaper than £12 a set!)

There are the D'addario EXP strings. I've never tried them though.

Worth mentioning that Elixers use D'addario strings anyway.

I didn't know that, nfe - I use D'addario almost exclusively, and I did wonder about the EXPs at one point...
