PhillyQ - you should offer to guitar tech for someone.  Sounds like it'd be your ideal job!

If I had my time over, that would probably suit me quite nicely.  :D
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yeah I'm sort of in that "phase" at the minute. Sick of everything I currently play so I'm turning my attention to fingerstyle stuff for now, its more rewarding at the minute.

i think fingerstyle is the best thing you could learn! tis much more friendly and social way of playing guitar, cause when someone has an acoustic and you say you can play guitar to......tapping and metal licks won't really impress them  :?

I play quite a wide range of stuff but there is tons to learn and so I can't envisage ever getting fed up. I don't(or can't) do metal and I can't see myself doing it but I'd like to get more jazzy I think. I started slide seriously a few years back though for gigging I play it in standard tuning rather than carry a spare guitar or re tune. Slide is very therapeutic  for me-very soulful sound-all I have to do now is get good at it.

I said bye bye to metal a couple of years ago.

I lost interest in it and it wasn't enjoyable anymore. I began using less and less overdrive. I felt like I was playing a dirt box instead of a guitar and amp. No matter how many power chords there are, they're still just simple power chords. Playing other music led me to playing minors, 7th's, 9's etc. I don't even know the name of half of them.

Now I mainly play rockabilly/rock n' roll in it's broader sense. From early Elvis to modern AC/DC.

The other thing that 'bothered' me about metal is that I can't be angry all the time.

I'm having more fun playing the guitar then ever.

I've just sold:-

A Gordon Smith
my Regal Dobro (well it's in sounds great)
My Nylon electro
My strat is going
A Taylor Classic I had for about 3 weeks!

Which will leave me with 2 electrics (Tele and 335) and an acoustic.

That's enough, too many guitars is counterproductive, I'm always tinkering and upgrading when I should be playing.
I'm getting rid of all my guitar mags too, fed up of looking at the next thing to buy.....

I'm going back to basics and learning again, something new everyday and spending no time looking at guitars.

I spoke to a Jazz guitarist the other day, he said he didn't even really like guitars, they were just a tool to him and he is a fine player with a great tone.

I hope to be enlightened like King Lear by shaking the superflux.....

Either that or I'll just start buying again!

In fact, I did speand 1k on a Tokai ES130 yesterday

FWIW, I went through a real Rush phase at around the time I joined this forum.  Downloaded loads of Alex Lifeson tabs & hardly played anything else for ages.  It really broadened my playing horizons & actually benefitted my metal playing too as it had got me playing chords & fingerings I'd never have thought of before.

Before then, my playing had well & truly stagnated - I'd probably been on a >10 year plateau - so it was very good for me.  The influences I've picked up on this forum have helped a lot too.

So no, I never thought of giving up metal, but trying something completely different brought back a lot fo the enjoyment that had gone a bit stale - for all my musical styles.

I know  Well its sunburst and an absolute beauty, photos and NGD thread to follow soon!

I've wanted one for ages, I think with that and my Tele I will be able to cover absolutely everything I could wish for.

What one guitar are you keeping Ian, just your Esquire?

Definitely agree with this, I find having too much stuff to piss around with just wastes time/attention on the gear rather than the playing.

Even considering whether I should get a 3rd electric for my b'day this year, my parents are offering to pay but I havent really felt the need to get another yet! Whats happening to me?! :?

Wow.
My gear is pretty versatile.
I play regular gigs with a contemporary jazz orchestra, a Black Gospel choir, and a rock band.
Occasional event gigs with special groups put together for that event. Most recently did a pop-punk gig, an 80's spoof night, and a Run DMC tribute band.
Putting together a group for a short run of engagements, Kid Rock, Chili Peppers, that type of thing, by request of the venue.
I am also starting a new group, we're covering Ra and similar more modern pop-rock stuff and starting to write in that vein.

Just a wide variety of projects, always keeps my interest going and I don't really burn out on any one thing.

It would be fair to say that somewhat like PhillyQ I am as much or more of a collector as I am a true player. I try to get in at least an hour of playing each day, and more if I can, but my equipment far exceeds my talent level.
