Question About Calibrated Warpigs
« on: August 21, 2009, 09:44:05 PM »
This may be a dumb question about calibrated sets in general.

But a friend is intrested in a Birdge Pig for a new ESP Maveric, and ive always wanted the highest powered pickup that BKP make for my ESP LTD Eclipse, i was wondering can a neck pickup of a calibrated set be put in the bridge of any guitar.

It could be a way for both of us to save some money this way, as well as get the pickups we want.

Can it be done, of is this a stupid question.

In a word ... no
The bridge and neck models have different outputs, so you'll not get similar results splitting the pair across two guitars.
I would ask Tim, he'll give you the answer one way or the other on price.
I would also recommend the Painkiller for high output - don't be put off by the DC ratings, output is all in the ear after all and my PK is just as loud, if not louder, than my Warpig.

we're not trying to get matching sounds, we're just wanting to know if it'll sound ok. It's the fact that my local store have got a matched pair in and it would save me having to order them myself.  :D

You can put a neck pickup in the bridge. It won't be as high output as the bridge pickup, but I would imagine it would sound okay. If I were you I would just order another set and ask Tim to wind both to bridge pickup specs. I would imagine he would do that for you. Sets are a bit cheaper than two pickups sold seperately. I would imagine that is due to the fact that single pickups have to be boxed seperately and come with the strings, etc. If Tim would give you a set of bridge pups it would probably be a bit cheaper, but you would get less swag.

That may be the way, order a set of Warpic bridge pickups and then split them. I dont really want the swag anyways, as i dont use the Rotosound strings that you get with BKPs anyways. May just have to orginise what colour we want.

FYI, sent Tim an Email and this is what he said:

Quote
The bridge and neck pickups are different spec-bridge Warpig DC22K,
Warpig neck DC17.5K so if you fit the neck WP into the bridge position
it won't sound the same or give the same performance as a WP bridge.
The WP neck, used as a bridge pickup would have less output and
saturation as a WP bridge-but.................it would still be quite a
hight output pickup when used in the bridge.

kindest regards

tim
