Pickups for doom/sludge/stoner rock
« on: August 28, 2009, 03:17:00 PM »
hey guys, my mate is after some new pickups for Doom, Sludge, Stoner Rock. Similar to Kyuss, Weedeater, Bongzilla, Electric Wizard, Fu Manchu, Sleep.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTpgen_-jSQ

guitar: 2004 ibanez rg370dx, basswood body, 3pc maple neck, rosewood fingerboard (trem blocked)
setup: Guitar > Crybaby > Marshall JH1 (set to slight Overdrive) > EHX Big Muff PI USA (on max volume and sustain) > Laney RB4 160watt Bass amp combo 15"

for playing using heavy fuzz or disortion 90% of the time, little bit of clean with slight overdrive going on the other 10%

Pig bridge and MQ neck?  :P

I think MQs would do the tone of the clip JDC put up pretty well.....

I wouldnt use NBs for that clip.

Its got warpig all over it.

AV warpig.

Never used a neck pig or an MQ so I cant comment, but that tone is A-Pig.

I've been thoroughly enjoying doom on my Edwards Les Paul Custom with a Riff Raff bridge recently, I'm starting to always lean towards lower output pickups for doom/sludge/crust.

Dunno about in a basswood/maple RG though.

AV Pig bridge with a matched Mississippi Pig neck.
