N1UD: RJM Effect Gizmo
« on: August 18, 2009, 09:59:03 PM »
Best abbreviation I could thing of for misc. rack gear. ;)

Anyway, my new effects looper has arrived and been mounted in the RACK OF DOOM, which brings it one step closer to perfection (until the next shiny thing with flashing lights becomes available of course ;)).

The new unit is an RJM Effect Gizmo which has 12 MIDI controllable loops (I went for the all-stereo option for maximum flexibility).  Purchase of one of these has been brought forward since I picked up an ADA MP-1 preamp on eBaa, as I wanted to be able to switch between that preamp and my Marshall JMP-1 on the fly.  It also gives me the option of switching my BBE Sonic Maximiser in/out of the audio chain as well.

I will also be adding a shelf to the rack so I can add miscellaneous pedals (ISP Decimator being the only one so far) as well.  I suspect a Tube Screamer or equivalent will be added in the next few months.  The plan is to only have the MIDI foot pedal, expression pedal and a wah on the ground, with the rest safely tucked away in the rack.

Another bonus, which I didn't even think of until this evening, is that I'll be able to hook up my PODxt as an additional pre-amp as well (I like options ;)).

Before I can get this all hooked up properly I need to by a few more cables, unfortunately the toy fund is now dry so that will have to wait a month or so...

No camera handy, so I'll get some pics later.

Sounds like what I needed for my wall of ADA MP1s - so I could switch between then
May have to look into it

It's really easy to program too.  Set the MIDI channel it's listening on, then use your footpedal to send a program change to it.  Press the buttons for each loop you want of for that channel, then hold down the Write button until it flashes.  Job done.  :)

You can also use the loops labelled NO (normally open) and NC (normally closed) to control footswitchable features of your amp.  I've currently got it changing the voicing on my Marshall 9100 power amp.  :)

Now installed in the rack.  The beast, she grows:

Need to get more patch cables now, including some stereo to two mono Y shaped jobbies, before I can hook her up fully unfortunately.

I must confess, I set that up to grab a long-exposure photo for a monthly competition on another forum.  Here was the best I came up with:

It's actually been short-listed for the prize.  :D

Do you gig with that or is it just for home?

I used to gig with about half of it, but it's gradually grown during my "down time".  Hopefully get back to gigging next year, now the kids are getting a bit older.
