Spray paint a pickup?
« on: October 09, 2009, 02:01:46 AM »
Some people want colours (I could use florescent Pink) & BKP don't offer anything other than purple...

So why can't you spray paint a favourite pickup to any colour you want?

Carefully tape off the wind - cover the poles - spray a couple of coats on the bobbins - maybe finish with clear.

Install and play....

What BAD things could happen?  :? :D

There is that!

Also I think the paint will wear off pretty quick.  It won't adhere very well to the plastic bobbins, and since they have sharpish edges you rest your hand on.... it's going to look cr@p before you know it.

 ...possibly the very second you take your finger off the "spray" button and go "omigod wot have I done??!!"

Didn't I read a while back that if you could source your own bobbin, then BKP would use it? Or is that my imagination...

I think they might, but bobbin sizes seem to vary a bit, they may not be compatible with BKP baseplates etc.

You could always get a Duncan or DiMarzio rewound.  It's getting a bit expensive then, though.

Well I've ordered some of those F-spaced bobbin toppers so I will do a definitive test to see which BKPs/Duncans/Dimarzios they fit and let you all know if they do look like shite.  :?
