Just a BKP noob looking for some help
« on: October 26, 2009, 08:34:44 PM »
So Im new to these forums. First let me say hi to everyone.

I have been playing for a while now, about 6 years, and have been recently looking to upgrade my tone. I play an Epiphone Les Paul Classic. Its a great guitar, but it has stock pickups in it. I have been searching around for a great set of pickups and everyone I have talked to has directed me here, so here I am.

I am in the US, thats why I didnt just call Tim to talk to him directly cause I dont know about the time zone difference.

I play more modern rock, stuff like Creed (well the newer Tremonti stuff), Three Days Grace, Seether, Godsmack... Stuff like that. I play through a Peavey Valveking 112. No pedals, just straight into the amp. Im a huge tone wh*re and like having a great tone just through my amp and pickups. I play mostly rhythm, but I also play some leads and I would like a pickup that is nice and chunky for the rhythm parts yet still punchy, articulate, and responsive for lead work.

I was wondering if y'all can give me some help in searching for a set of Bareknuckle's that are right for me? Every one has said that something like the Miracle Man's or Nailbombs would be better suited for me. Do y'all agree? I really appreciate any help y'all can give me.

hello!

does your LP has got a maple top?

i have no direct experience with NBs in Les Pauls, but i heard one and i loved its tone... I've got my Nailbombs in an Ibanez SA prestige, with a thick mahogany body, a thick maple top and a set-in maple neck, so a bit brighter but not so far from your LP. and they ROCK.
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

Yeah, my Les Paul has got the standard mahogany body with a quilted maple top and a set mahogany neck.

My only real "experience" with the NB's comes from the clips on here and the youtube video of a guy playing his NB equipped LP with his camera mounted on the headstock. But it was a video so I cant really judge the tone completely based on that...

i fear that my "direct" experience is exactly the same! anyway from the way it behaves in my SA i'd say that it should work very well in your LP, maybe even better because the mahogany neck should add a bit more depth.
many forum users tried or own that setup, just wait some hour and you'll receive some much more useful answer... ;)
