LSR nut / Steinberger gearless tuners- Issues?
« on: November 09, 2009, 06:10:31 PM »
I'm getting a neck sorted for a project partscaster.
It will have big (2.79 X 1.45 mm) Jescar stainless steel frets
steinberger gearless tuners
LSR roller nut (the smaller version)
There will be no string trees

Just wondering if there might be an issue with the break angle at the back of the LSR nut?
Can anyone forsee any issues?
As there are no string trees, to get enough tension behind the nut, could the required break angle mean the strings catch the surface at the back of the LSR nut?
I presume if this happened the string would rest on the metalic back edge of the nut as well as the roller part, potentially creating an additional point of friction and therefore potential tuning issues.

Anyone used a guitar with this combination before?

havnt done it so cant say for sure but i dont think you will have an issue.  the back edge or the LSR's scalloped away on teh string path.

the Steinberger tuners do pull the string very close to the headstock face but it should be good... more likely to catch the wood behind the nut than the nut itself and if it does you can bevel that edge downwards at an angle

I was hoping you would say that. Results will be a month or so yet.
Will have a hipshot trem on it for luck as well
