This is sort of a speculative post.
I recently bought a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Telecaster, a fine guitar that punches well above it's weight. at the time I was looking to buy a Tele, I tried a few others out. One of which was a Fender Classic Player Baja tele, which I liked, but at the time, not enough to justify paying almost twice as much for it when the Squier was almost as good.
So, a few months later, I'm looking into upgrading it. Remembering how much I kinda dug the Baja's sound, I looked on eBay and came across an auction for the guts of a Baja (pickups and switching/controls). I won.
Sadly, I have no idea how this happened, but one of the wires on the "Twisted Tele" neck pickup broke off. I'm not sure whether or not it can be salvaged. This either means over £80 down the drain or 2 possible options that I can think of:
a) Covert the tele to an Esquire using the Broadcaster pickup. I was thinking about buying a Baja next year anyway (the chunky neck was nice), so this would make my Squier Classic Vibe a little different.
b) look for another neck pickup to go with the broadcaster, and fit that instead, and forgo the s-1 switch, which would entail bar-stewardizing the control cavity with a chisel anyway. I could always install a 4-way switch later on if I so wished.
If I go with option b, which on the face of it, is much simpler than an esquire conversion, I'm thinking after my Epiphone Dot benefitted from BKP's that these would be my first port of call for this as well. I was thinking, given what the "Broadcaster" pickup is obviously based on, that a Blackguard neck pickup would be ideal. Any more advice would be appreciated. I'd still like to make use of the bridge pickup that is still intact.
