Coil Splitting My Nailbombs
« on: January 17, 2010, 08:48:13 AM »
Getting a wee bit tired of the sounds that I can get from my 2 x Nailbomb Charvel.

It's currently 2 humbuckers, 1 volume, 1 tone, and a Schaller Megaswitch, giving PRS type switching.

I'm thinking now that I want to try something a little different, including true coil splitting to see what the single coil neck and bridge sounds are like.

Initially I was thinking about using a switch per pickup, but now I'm thinking of using a Superswitch.  The Superswitch looks like it can support many different switching options, although I suspect that you have to have a mightier intellect than mine to fathom all the options...

Anyone got this config?  Any advice?

Mark.

Incidentally, coming to this board and asking questions about how to install Nailbombs in my Charvel originally was one of my first posts here...  Awwww, getting all nostalgic!

You need this switch (schaller megaswitch E) :

I've installed one in my Ibanez S7320 with Nailbomb in bridge and  Coldsweet in neck. The sound of BareKnuckle in single coil is really beautiful.
The  megaswitch you have in your Charvel is the "P", they are physically identical but the possibilities of connection are different :

Good music, sorry for my poor english.

Thanks for that.

I actually think that I'll go for a couple of micro switches to get a few more options.

Guys, I'm planning to do this:

Does it look reasonable?  I got 2 on/on/on mini switches for it, and a Tele style lever...

That's probably about as versatile as you can get, short of adding a phase switch.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Have you looked into the SD tripleshot mounting rings? then you could have a phase switch too

So, I did it - off work with the tail end of flu (cough...), so thought I'd put my time to good use and do some soldering.

Was a little tricky, as the tele 3 way selector took some working out, but the old Shovel has a pretty good range of tones now.  I think that I might have accidentally wired the 2 humbucker middle position out of phase (?!?!), but it sounds kinda cool, so I think that I might keep it that way!
