PRS SE Les Paul looking one.
« on: December 30, 2009, 09:02:34 PM »
My wife bought me a pre law suit one of these a few years ago when she gt made redunant and went back to Uni.  Now, that may seems a random statement, but just spelling out, I can never sell it.  Not allowed.  8)

Anyway.  THe orginal pickups are OK, but I have nice guitars, so OK doesnt make me want to pick it up.

I have decided to put on some P90's.  Christmas present from said wife.

There seems to be 3 different sets???

Are they very different???  Anyone got them???  I want something thats a P90, not a humbuckersound.

Who's got them???  Whats your own thoughts???

You cant go far wrong with the standard BKP90s for great vintage tones
If you want more of a heavy metal kind of thing go for the BKP92s - they sound great where a more gain heavy tone is required.
And somewhere in between lies the BKP91s

Ha Ha. DEFO not metal.  Love all sorts of music.  Apart from metal.  I can even listen to country!!!!  Jonny Cash.

Anyway, classic rock, modern indie stuff is mostly my thing.  So a 90 or 91 sounds right.  I thought, reading the forum, the 92 was too hot for me.

Anyone got a 90 or 91?????  I defo will pick one of them.  Not sure which

I don't like really hot P90s, they get too mushy and fat for me.  I had regular 90s in a Les Paul sepcial and they sounded superb.  I've currently got low output Fralin P90s in my Fano JM6 which I also love - I wouldn't want the pickups any hotter.

I'd go for a set of regular P90s, or a P90 in the neck/P91 in the bridge.

I had a P90 in the neck and a P91 in the bridge, very versatile combination and would recommend it. But as always, get in touch with BKP direct and they will tell you exactly the model you need.

+1

Even the BKP-91 is pretty hot, I have one in my LP Jr and it's quite a lot more powerful than the stock (Epi) pickup.

If you go for the BKP-90s, remember it's a calibrated set so there won't be a volume disparity between neck and bridge.

The BKP-90 is Alnico II and the BKP-91 is Alnico V, so I imagine the 90 will have a slightly warmer, smoother sound.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
