BKPs for MH-1000
« on: January 21, 2010, 05:08:24 AM »
Hey guys, this is my first topic at the forums.

I've got an MH-1000 Non-Trem (String-thru) that has pretty good Seymour Duncans in it but I'm going to make the step up to BKP's as soon as I get the money. I was hoping you guys could make a couple suggestions as to the right pickup for me... I play a lot of metal, progressive, and hard rock. Think Between the Buried and Me, Sikth or Periphery, and Coheed and Cambria.

I'm looking for a bridge pickup that can deliver tight lows, clear highs, and a well-defined midrange. Something that's good for those big rock/metal chords, preferably with a nice clean tone. For a neck pickup I'm looking for something that has that smooth rounded sound you find in a lot of prog and metal sweeping sections, without being to weak in volume and without getting too muddy on the low end (a problem I have with a lot of neck pickups.)

So far I'm thinking Painkiller or Nailbomb in bridge, and Cold Sweat in neck.

Also, a secondary question: Can I get 2 pickups of a different type calibrated or is that just if I buy two matching pickups?

Another n00b thats done his lurking/research! Welcome.

Youre almost there, imo.

Ceramic nailbomb bridge (this is what Pin uses anyway) and cold sweat neck.

Its got a sweeter, warmer high end than most ceramics so it should still be fine for the coheed stuff, though the cold sweat bridge would be better for that, the CS and CNB are family members anyway - the CNB is essentially an overwound cold sweat (so I understand anyway).

Also, the CNB should stay pretty heavy in your (likely quite) bright guitar - maple set-thru in mahogany ~ maple, with a bit more warmth cos the bridge is in mahogany.

Surprisingly enough, this guitar has a generous amount of warmth. The Epi Les Paul I was using before this only a little warmer than the MH-1000 (Certainly a noticeable change but not as much as you'd expect.)

Also, how do I go about ordering the Ceramic Nailbomb? I can't seem to find it in the shop.

Interesting, on the warmth of the guitar...

But anyway, C-bomb works great in bassier guitars as well.

Put that you want cermic in the options.
