Marshall JCM2000 TSL601 (first valve amp)
« on: February 06, 2010, 10:50:33 AM »
Hey guys just wondering if you can give me some pointers on things to check for as i am totally new to valve amps.

I know virtually nothing about them.

So all info is much appreciated.

A few questions i have are.

What is biasing? how do i check this?
How do i know if the valves are fine?
and are there any things that i must do to ensure optimal operation? eg having the amp on standyby before use.

and most importantly how to achieve the best from it.

thanks
Tony

Some basic stuff for you to start off with:

* Make sure the speaker is plugged into the amp part via a cable before firing it up
* Leave it on standby for a minute or two before turning it on fully to "warm up"

Re. biasing/are the valves OK etc I wouldn't worry about that for now.  Fire it up and play it for a while and see how you get on  :)

I am getting on rather well so far im just playing about with the EQ atm trying to get the best possible sound.

I've noticed instantly how much more responsive it is to pick attack etc than the line6 was lol.
