Looking for BKP equivalents to SD Pearly Gates & SH-5
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:48:57 PM »
I have a set of AV Warpigs in my Les Paul Custom but I'm finding that they may be a bit too over the top in my rig.
I have to dial the gain way back else they sound jagged and sort of undefined. Also its really difficult to get a decent clean sound out the neck Warpig.

I have an ESP Eclipse with a SD Pearly Gates in the neck and a SH-5 five in the bridge that sounds pretty damn good in and I'm wondering what BKP pickups are in the same ballpark as those SD pickups.

I'm thinking either a Stormy Monday or Mule in the neck and a Cold Sweat or Nailbomb in the bridge.

We play Stoner/Doom type metal and my rig looks like so:
Eclipse or LPC ---> Catalinbread SCOD --> MESA Studio Pre --> 15 band EQ --> MESA 50/50 --> Side A 2x12 Side B = 1x15

Also we tune clear down to drop A...........

The closest thing to a Sh5 and Pearly Gates Neck are a  Cold Sweat Bridge and a Stormy Monday Neck.
However I think the two pickups are a bit unbalanced so you might have a volume drop when switching to the neck...
If you are OK with that than go for it, if you want a balanced set then go for a calibrated Cold Sweat set!

the nailbomb can be a great replacement for the sh-5 too, but I'd pick the cold sweat, specially for a Mesa amp
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
