Bridge pickup advice for mahogany guitar
« on: January 26, 2010, 04:28:59 PM »
Hi everybody,

I need your advice please.

Which bridge PU would guys you use in a mahogany guitar (either ESP Eclipse or ESP Viper) to get a similar rhythm sound like on the latest In Flames record (A sense of purpose)?

In Flames are known for using EMGs but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a MM is the best choice. Also no one knows which PUs they really used in the studio.

I was thinking C-pig would fit the bill but maybe that’s a bit too much?

Here are a few clips to give you an idea

I use the Miracle Man in my Gothic Explorer and it's pretty damn close to the In Flames tone

Not sure 'bout the C-Pig, but C-Bomb would be definitely be an option.
Got on in my ESP FX (mahogany body&neck) and it sure delivers the low-middy thickness that defines the Göteborg sound.

Hands down Miracle Man.

It would also work great with downtuning.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Had a few emails w/Tim about my neck thru Mahogany bodied/neck custom V and he recommended the matched Painkiller set. I told him I play everything from NWOBHM in a cover band to Modern Extreme Death/Thrash. He was real thorough asking about my amps, speakers, etc to match the right pick up for me. I would maybe contact him as well. For what it is worth, Nicholas from www.axepalace.com recommended the same set.
