What do you want to hear?
The Painkiller is the Sh-6 Distortion and the Holy Diver is the Sh-4 Jeff Beck?

Bareknuckle Pickups are not high quality versions of existing pickups, they are individual sounding pickups wound to Tims specs, not Seymour Duncans!

I know and understand that BK'S are their own design and are in no way like or copies the duncans, thus the "for reference". I am simply more familiar with the Duncan line and was looking for a reference point.  I am looking for a better version(maybe slighty different) of what I currently have, but since the website doesn't contain the all of the specifics(i.e. EQ numbers for each of the pickups and soundbites of each pup using a identical guitar and amp) it is hard for to tell what I getting by just the D.C. Resisitance and magnet type, and at about $180 a pop as opposed to $70 or $80, I want to try to make the right decision the first time. Thank you, by the way, for your input. That helped out a bunch.

We are all trying to help.

You got a lot of very clear & very specific replies on your more detailed post & all the information you could need is already here via the SEARCH function.

A phonecall/email to Tim would be enough if you really are TOTALLY unsure.

Make a decision GO!!!!

There are actually a couple of pickups that will achieve some of what each of the mentioned pickups does

They hit the same ballpark but haver their own characteristics

SH6 Duncan Distortion

Painkiller - fat , crunchy tone instant Judas Priest
Miracle Man - great for Zakk and Lynch tones

SH4 JB

try Holy Diver - full in the midrange but quite bright
or Try Crawler - a bit more open (like a PAF on steroids)
Nailbomb - huge organic, dark slab of rock tone with lots of low mids
www.felineguitars.com - repairs & custom built
Great fretwork!

Nice... Thanks guys. Feline.... SWEET... thank you. Dave, please don't think I am not grateful. Guys, I cannot express how grateful I am. Just could do without the "BK's are not Duncans" statements. This is inherently obvious and it's why I am here in the first place. The reference game is just the way I work.  Anyway, I did rifle off an email to Tim as suggested and the search option kicks ass as well. I thank you all for your help and should be far less of pain in the stones when I begin my search for my Strat and semi hollow pickups.

I saw in your other thread that you were after sounds like e.g. Foo fighters. I personally wouldn't go for a too 'metal' type pickup for those tones. Most of the ceramic pickups are quite metal in nature, the Cold Sweat being the most 'hard rock' as opposed to metal of them all. Ceramic Nailbomb would be like an overwound cold sweat; somewhat less highs and more mids. The cold sweat is bright and typically sounds best (for my ears) in guitars that have a warm tone with lots of mids.

In true BKP forum fashion, you've gotten a handful or two of different suggestions  I would probably go for the vintage hot section if I were you. Emerald?

But seriously, wait for Tim's suggestion. It might come as a surprise, but he is usually right :)

Hmmm... I see. I like that train of thought. Okay. Everybody check out my band myspace.com/fivespeed... I am a knucklehead for not doing this earlier. Not exactly like that of the Foo, but you get the idea.

sorry for the hijack, but I thought that the HD was more thick with more low mids than the NB which I feel as being more on the upper mids and also brighter than the HD... Am I mistaken ?

Oops - that was the description I meant to add for the Painkiller
The HD is full with less of that upper midrange spike than the JB has

about $180 a pop as opposed to $70 or $80

actually about $130 shipped to any country
$235 for a shipped matched set

I don't think the nailbomb has any more upper mids than the diver, just more high end
I wish the Nailbomb had more center and upper mids like the Diver
it's kinda modern PAF voiced instead (thick lows, flat mids and bright top), but really high output for alnico 5 (much hotter than the diver)
