What BK pick-ups Epi Les Paul
« on: February 16, 2010, 01:24:16 PM »
I am looking for any advice you guys can give me.

I'm looking to change the stock bridge humbucker on my Epiphone Les Paul for a BK pick-up. My set-up is really simple. I run my Epi straight into my Laney GH50L head and run the gain at 8 for a cool crunchy sound and add the drive stage, also set at 8, for a heavy crunch type tone, not too saturated but still quite a heavy tone. Couple this with the mahogany body of the guitar it's a very fat rhythm tone. I'm a big fan of rock/hard rock bands like Alterbridge and Shinedown but also love guys like Joe Bonamassa.

The current tone i have is great but looses clarity at higher volume and creates a fair bit of feedback.

Any ideas or suggestions for a BK upgrade would be appreciated. :D

Cheers

joe

From what I've been reading on here, a CS set wouldn't be a bad choice at all. I'll give you another opinion in that you should also look up the Nailbomb. I hear that an NB bridge goes well with a CS neck. I don't have any experiences with CS, but that'll probably be a future set-up for me just based on what I've read about it. I have an NB bridge and MQ neck on my LP Studio. Like you, I use few, or no pedals at all, and model the sound through my amp. You can hear a recording of my Nailbomb bridge here-- http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=20205.0

I didn't enhance the guitar recording with added compression, or overdub. I wanted to retain the true sound as much as humanly possible. Granted, we lose information the moment we record and bounce it out to a digital file. You'll hear that the Nailbomb can produce that heavy crunch you're looking for while still retaining clarity. The song starts off with the Nailbomb.

Maybe a RY or a CS.
Agonise over your decision for weeks like the rest of us.
