Duncan A2-pro versus A2 Mule and A2 Stormy Monday
« on: March 19, 2010, 10:18:51 PM »
ok, I'm hooked on the A2 humbucker sound/feel at the minute - it just fits what I'm playing really well.

I know the tone of the Duncan A2 Pro pickups that Slash uses (they're on pretty much everything he'd ever recorded).

Has anyone here compared them directly with A2 Mules or A2 Stormy Mondays ?????

I know that the Duncans are known for being able to handle OD very well without mushing out - I'm thinking that the A2 Mules are probably the closest ???

Anyone with relevant experiences on this, I'd like to hear your thoughts.  I'm playing alot of 'Southern Rock' and blues at the minute (ZZ Top, Allmans, Fleetwood Mac)

I have tried a Tele with AII pro single coils. I liked those as long with low and medium gain.

I also had a guitar (a long time ago) with a SD Pearly Gates. Also with an AII magnet. It did mush out a bit with high gain. Clean low and medium gain were great.

Does BKP do a Pearly Gates pickup? If not, they should.

Yeah ! That would be dead good Jonathan  :)  - although probably a bit 'stiff' sounding to my ears. You know - like the tone on the 'Epitaph' album.  We would probably have to use ceramics. Although I dig the general  idea   - I prefer something a bit more 'earthy' and organic. The thread will probably die a death after this post , but what I am basically saying is - that yes, we need to involve something that could feasibly be used by 'The Reverend'.
