G12K-100! :)

Or if you're feeling rich and want to feel a LOT poorer, get some EVM-12L black labels. :)

i don't feel rich at the moment... definitely! i'm just curious about these quite cheap laney cabs, they can't be this bad, can they?

those Celestion Seventy 80 speakers are their budget line - NASTY!!!

I've got a real deal Marshall 4x12 here, bottom cab, think its either a late JCM800 or early JCM900 going by the construction as there is no logo in the bottom left corner anymore.  It's got two G12T-75 Celestions and two HH 50w speakers which sound somewhere between a V30 and G12T-75, so you've effectively got a 200w cab.  Its just surplus to requirements as I use my G12H-30 loaded slant cab the most.  PM me if you're interested.

Yeah the 70/80s are pretty boring sounding not bad sounding but packs no punch.

The cab itself is quite well built though, assuming you're talking about the GS412 cabs. They are not as tall, but deeper than Marshall 1960 cabs. Not as immediate sounding as the 1960 but has a much thicker sound. For £50 more I'd go for the TT412 cab if you want a Laney, if you like Vintage 30s that is. That said, usually you can get much better deals used so I'd look around first.

I would look around for used 4 x 12 cabs (especially those with sub-par speakers in, so long as the cabs are well made!), and look to sticking G12Ks in there. The speakers are relatively cheap but sound fantastic :) I have a couple of those in a Peavey 5150 slant cab (not the best made cab in the world, I'll admit!) and they sound massive!

I used to own a Laney 4x12 with V30s. I bought it at a time when I thought cabs won't matter, just speakers. Well I was wrong. That cab didn't sound good. I sold it for the price of just the 4 V30s. It was a slant TI cab (Tony Iommy type).

Get an old Marshall, nothing beats an early 70s Marshall with Greenbacks. Even for the brutals it's good!

steer way away from these 7080. they're cardboard with a metal cage. flubby low end and ratty high end.

I agree with LazyNinja, the cab is well built, but get one with better speakers!

I'd love to get my hot little hands on an old Laney cab with 12" HH speakers.

I had one as a kid as part of a Pro Linebacker combo and it ruled. Biggest snarliest bottom end and mids I ever heard from a 2x12."
