NDIYPD - Mighty Mouse
« on: April 16, 2010, 03:17:06 PM »
I finished my first ever DIY pedal last night - A Build Your Own Clone "Mighty Mouse". Fired it up last night at about 11 o'clock with my amp volume on less than 1 and it still sounded bloody brilliant. First thing I'm gonna do when I get home tonight is pour myself a beer and try it out with my amp cranked  8)

For those of you who don't know, it's modelled on the original Pro-Co RAT, but with 6 different distortion/overdrive options. The MOSFET O/D sounds particularly nice and this sustains forever!

Seriously, more people should try out BYOC effects - the quality is amazing (I havent done any soldering for 15 years, but I still managed to make it really neat and tidy) and building them gets quite addictive. I even got up early before work a couple of mornings to build mine!

I had a Mighty Mouse, great pedal.  I sold it becuase too many tonal options confuse me when playing live though:?

I put the Ruetz and feedback mods on toggles which made it an even better pedal but I couldn't remember where it should be set and was constantly fiddling with it.

But yeah, really nice pedal!

I have one built too, and one day I'll get round to painting it. I have it set to the first overdrive clipping mode, and it serves as my fat OD sound, with my home made Crunchbox as my high gain sound. Lovely pedal.

The very first pedal I had built, was such a sad story. On the very last solder I poked it right through the pc board and ruined the whole thing XD haha

How useable do you find teh six different OD options ? I like my RAT pedal, and also use a T-Rex Mudhoney which is quite rat-ish but woudl like a little more sonic flexibility, so might give teh BYOC stuff a look into.

My first pedal was a BYOC Tubescreamer. Sort of a distaster as it was so messy and I ruined the first switch! It works great now though and sounds better than other "high end" pedals I had before such as the HBE Power Screamer. It'd be even better if I didn't nacker the JRC chip, I'm using one of the others and it doesn't sound quite so good as it did with the JRC.

Tempted to make one of their fuzzes or something.
