Do BKs not like active electronics?
« on: December 02, 2005, 12:33:35 AM »
Hey guys.

In the future I plan on buying a set of Apaches for my old Japanese Strat and I was thinking of taking the Duncan Antiquities out of the scratchplate they're in and simply replacing them with the Apaches.

The scratchplate has a TBX Tone control and an active 25dB EMG Afterburner Booster on it, will this work ok with the Apaches, or may it cause problems as Pierre's active electronics did with his MM?

Thanx for any info.

Craig

I don’t see any reason why they would be a problem; they are just the same as normal passive pickups. I don’t think you will have a problem myself.

Ive just gutted one of my Warwick basses, active electronics and passive pickups and replaced them with passive pots and our pickups and I must say that the tone is more versatile now than it was with the active electronics.
Our motto is: if the tone is right in the first place, you shouldn't need to enhance certain frequencies with active electronics!

Thanx for the post Steve :)

I'm not sure if the TBX tone control is classed as 'active' or not? The Afterburner doesn't change the sound of the guitar at all, it's just a pure volume boost :)

Just thought I'd ask in advance so I know which scratchplate to use with my Apaches when I get them :)

I have a active strat (12db mid boost) and it works really well with the BK pickups.I think BK's extra clarity helps with all the extra boosting going on.

My Charvel has a mid boost on it and is still active but i don't use it now. They sound great without it.

I didn't realise you did bass pickups until I went on my local guitar makers site (www.arrowheadguitars.co.uk).
