Need a pickup suggestion for a custom
« on: May 14, 2010, 06:15:38 PM »
Hi all,

I am having a custom guitar made and I need a little help deciding which pickups to go with.  Here are the basic specs of the guitar:

25.5" scale, 24 frets
Dual Hums
Neckthrough with Korina and Bubinga neck
Korina body with small tone chambers
Wenge Fretboard
String-through-body
Burl/Flame Maple carved top
Slim construction with carved back

I'll toss in an early concept picture just for the hell of it.  Construction should be underway in the next week or two and I am stuck with pickup choice. I've been heavily leaning towards the Cold Sweat set, but I just don't know anymore.  I play a range of things from Porcupine Tree to Opeth to Born of Osiris and I need a versatile set that sounds good with the coils split as well.  Any suggestions would be more than welcome!

If you want versatility, have you considered a mixed set?
I'm getting a stormy monday in the neck and a black dog in the bridge, I was worried that they might not mix well but apparently as long as their impedence isn't too far off they sould be ok.
While I doubt that particular set would meet your needs, you might consider something gentiler in the bridge.
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.
