The Sinner rules!!

I just installed a Sinner in the bridge position of my Strat and let me tell you....this thing kicks!  It's hard to believe that it's a single coil. It has completely transformed my Strat and given me exactly what I wanted. 

Thanks to all here at the forum and at Harmony Central for the great reviews and tips. Much appreciated.

yes, i agree! its a BKP classic :) i've been playing it alot the last month or so.

edit: did you fit overwound trilogies in your other positions?

The Trilogy's are coming next. It's funny too because when I dropped off my guitar to my tech he had just installed a set of Black Dogs for another one of his clients. He hadn't even heard of BKP's until I had him install a set of VH11's in my LP. He's Duncan guy (but not for much longer)  :D

I dropped off my Strat at 11am, and he had the pickup installed by 4pm. Normally their is a 4-5 day turn around time, but he wanted to hear what the Sinner sounded like so he put it in right away.. And of course he was blown away. So much so that he is going to load up his main Strat with BKPs too.

i think you'll like the trilogies - if you tell tim they are to go with a sinner bridge he puts a bit more on them.

they have a nice compression, but still have a blatant strat spank! its funny but i think they sound a bit more stratty than slowhands, for example.

the sinner drives my 2204 marshall like a humbucker, but it still has a balanced single coil tone - though perhaps its not immediately identifiable as a strat tone when riffing hard with the gain up. i use it for hard rock, for which its ideal in this rig. alot of guys here use it for metal and swear by it, i'm sure its ideal for that.. but with my 2204 its very 80s hard rock!

i also like that positions 2 and 4 in the set still have the in-between tone. and i also like the way the pickups clean up in a beautiful way, even if they are pretty gainy.

Perhaps I'm wrong but I imagine that an overwound singlecoil like a Sinner would be more prone to hum than one with more conventional output, no?

Then again I imagine a low output single coil boosted with a pedal being totally humtastic, hence guys like Malmsteen and Impellitteri using humcancelling types.

I'm in a conundrum that only Carol Vorderman can solve.

it hums of course , but its totally managable. i don't feel like it has significantly more hum than my slowhand set.

when i use a booster then it helps to have a noise suppressor pedal, its not really necessary otherwise though.

edit:
i should say i get rich overdrive from the sinner without a pedal, its noticeably more gain/level than the slowhands. the slowhands give a very light bluesy sort of drive without a pedal - its not a 'love at first sting' style drive like with the sinner definately!

they're somewhat flat - you'd be better off with slowhands if you want some mids

with a proper strat and proper marshall, the trilogies have the best yngwie tone you can imagine.
