Got everything rewired last night, and ... Well, perhaps I should explain what's going on here. I have an Indie ILP523 with a pair of Mules I got about 18 months ago. A friend wired them up alla Jimmy Page and everything seemed fine. After not too long I noticed that the neck PU was louder than the bridge. This was very strange since, when speaking to Tim about the guitar over the phone, I mentioned that the neck was maple + rosewood f'board and not mahogany as with a real LP. Tim said he would put a few extra winds on the bridge PU to compensate for the lighter wood. So I started thinking that maybe the PUs were in the wrong way aroung - neck where bridge should be, and vice versa, and so out came the Jimmy Page wiring and I rewired the Mules using standard coil-tap wiring with a push-pull switch.
Two things happened: first I realised that the Jimmy Page wiring has completely obscured the true sound of the Mules - now I'm hearing all sorts of things now that weren't there before. There is an amazing purity of sound coming out of my Peavey Classic 50 now. The classic Les Paul gritty snarl and bite is all there (far nicer than the LP Custom I used to have), as is the clear, full and creamy Warren Haynes LP neck PU sound. Coil-taps produce a clean and extremely articulate sound from both PUs. Tapping one PU and leaving the other on full humbucking mode in the middle position produces a whole range of extremely usable sounds.
The other thing that happened was that now the volume (push-pull) pots work the other way round :roll: I'm fascinated to find out why. Any ideas???
