Replacement for D Sonic
« on: July 15, 2010, 10:34:21 PM »
I have an Ibanez 1527 with a D Sonic in the bridge but I'm looking for something a little different. For the most part I like the way it sounds when I'm playing leads. However, it doesn't ROAR or have the sustain that I want when playing rhythm. I find myself going back to my Les Paul with an EMG 81 (from my days of listening to metalcore silliness) which has the sustain and power, but unfortunately sounds so unnatural.

Basically, which BKP would give me that power and sustain of the EMGs, but have the crystal clear lead tone of the D Sonic?

Look into the miracle man.. its very much like an "organic" emg 81. it has the same attack in the sound. And its agressive as hell.
Its good for leads too.

I think Miracle Men too. Very different tone to the d-sonic of course. but will tick all the boxes you mention

Thanks guys. And it's okay if the overall tone isn't exactly like the D Sonic, I'm looking for something with slightly less mids anyway. It has an unattractive honk to it in the lower mid range, maybe because of it being coupled with my basswood body. As long as it has comparable clarity when playing single notes I'll be happy.
