What pickup for Vox sound?
« on: July 13, 2010, 09:34:11 PM »
Hello all,
I've been lurking for awhile, and I decided I want to replace the stock pickups on my neck thru mahagony bc-rich.

I'm currently using a Vox modelling amp, played an AC50CC as well, and I just love the Vox sound for anything.

My favorite bands are wide in spectrum, incl Suede, Siouxsie and The Banshees, and on the other end - WASP, My Dying Bride and Opeth.

What I'd like to do, is fit the guitar with pickups that can represent this variety by splitting and cleaning well.
I'm inclined toward a brighter sound, though I didn't like the Nailbomb sound in rhythm.
Maybe pair a contemporary bridge with vinatge hot neck? maybe both vintage hot?

Would love to hear your recommendations.

Yardbird sounds great, but my guitar isn't fit with single coils, it's why I want a humbucker that can get very heavy without being muddy, while splitting it for the more rock oriented material.

Hi Mangorth,

I think a set of of Riff Raffs would give you those classic, vintage rock and roll tones you're after and also is well-suited to your guitar as they are essentially PAF  in style.

Hey ben, checked out some riff raff clips on youtube, really like the sound, but I think I like the VHII and Emerald (especially) better.

My query is if these will handle extreme gain for Opeth style work. I heard they might get muddy.

the riff raffs will handle what you want, and low output pickups retain their clarity and note separation.

I have a Mule in my neck, and at least 5 players I know have ordered the Mule neck
after hearing mine.  Note: I'm not a big fan of the Mule in the bridge.
